Newbie Lunch Box
« on: July 21, 2010, 10:11:03 PM »
Me and my seven year old son have recently got in to this hobby as my son is completely mad on cars. We decided to buy the Lunch Box has it looks fun to drive and was able to come up with what ever paint scheme we wanted. So far the Lunch Box is built with bearings to replace the plastic bushes, we were wondering what other mods we could do to the Lunch Box. I've heard people talk of oil shocks to replace the stock ones, but not sure which to get or what will fit nicely. My son has decided that he wants to paint it like the mystery machine from scooby doo, this is the one thing that I'm not looking forward to as I've never done anything like this before. Any painting tips would also be very helpful.

Lastly, we're now wondering what would be a good kit to get next. Maybe around my birthday/Xmas, any suggestions?

Firstly welcome to the forum!

This should help with the mystery machine paint job look:

As for the shocks I'm no expert on Tamiya's especially the lunchbox as it has a strange setup for the shocks but this should help:

For your next model, I doubt it'll be a kit as most now are prebuilt or RTR (ready to run) a few do come as kits but they are mainly racing versions that you need to add the electrics to seperately. Personally I'd stay 1/10 scale and electric but go down the stadium truck or buggy route as these will be quick and perform a lot better that the Tamiya models. Ansmann do a cheap line of models but you might want to google the model names as some do have issues with fitment.

Failing that take a look here: http://modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=Category&CategoryID=992010 Pick out a model you like and post up the link to it and I'm sure someone on here will give you a quick review of it!

Happy bashing!

Thanks for reply on both threads. We've actually bought those decals off of eBay for the mystery machine, just need the right blue paint. I've also seen some oil shocks which I think may fit. They are some fastrax 85mm ones on modelsport. Not sure what size to use for the 3rd rear shock mod yet though.

You're right about it becoming expensive, I've had to sell a bit of stuff to fund it all.
