T Maxx??
« on: October 27, 2009, 10:39:27 PM »
H guys, it's been a while since I logged onhere...busy moving house.
My RC collection is growing ad I now have 2 nitros: A Savage and a Hong Nor X2. I do not have time to go toa track so I use them in fields and stuff-as a result I sort of prefer the Savage due to ground clearance, but it's quite high maitenance - awkward to work on.
I have the opportunity to purchase a 2nd hand Traxxas TMAxx 2.5 - are these easier to work on compared to the Savage, or more of the same? I read somewher that theri engines are difficult to tune. Also, is it somethng quite oldish now and how much is a good condition, 2nd hand one worth- a reasonable price?

Thanks loads for all yur advice

Dave

A Tmaxx is different to a Savage in lots of ways,. If you know what you are doing it can save you a lot of aggro with either one. Although, I would agree that the TRX motors are a little different from the norm, and when you get issues can be a right bitch to sort out. When sorted properly, amazing performance for thier cc.
The Savage is easier to fit other aftermarket motors in, whereas the Maxx will need a different engine mount. Used Tmaxxes do not often come with original motors that work well.
Both the Sav and the Maxx are quite old designs now, and I have seen various versions of both , used, for under a ton recently. These would most definately need time, money and effort to sort out properly anyway, along with no little knowledge.

If I were you Dave, I would get to know my savvy better and fix it up, and if I was buying another Monster would get another MTA4, (just to confuse you!)

Cheers for that, I suppose you are right - it's better if I focus on what I have, rather than get moe stuff and complicate life more.

Thanjs again O0

mate, electric is definatly the way forward for you! i have a traxxas slash vxl, which is just plug-n-play and super tough, and for ground clearance my mrs is getting me an e maxx for my birthday. sure its an old-ish design, but again no problems with tuning, quite tough and most of all WATERPROOF! pretty rapid too straight out of the box. didnt fancy a revo as i dont race just bash, and a summit, well too many bits to go wrong and far too slow stock.
Traxxas E Maxx 3905. oh yeah!
Traxxas all alloy 3906............in bits,
Traxxas T-Maxx 3.3 dirty ole nitro,
Traxxas Slash,
Traxxas Slash VXL,
Hobao Dominator EXTREME

i have 2 t-maxx's both are tought as old boots, i got mine for a amzing price but there just unstopable, i have flipped, crashed, rolled and even stored for 4 years and still runs like a dream, the traxxas engines are tricky to tune but i have a carson .28 engine and it goes like s**t off a shovel, it pops wheelies even on 16% nitro defonately get one  O0 O0
