Advice about my Thunder Tiger Hammer S18
« on: May 23, 2009, 06:18:14 PM »
Hi guys

I am looking for a little bit of advice, Im completely new to the nitro scene & have recently bought a Thunder Tiger Hammer S18 1/12th scale truck. Its great fun but there a couple of things I need to clarify

1) Its a bit of hassle using the pull start in that it seems to take ages to get the truck firing. I was wondering if its possible to get the engine modified to a dual start sytem so I can use a roto start? The engine that came with the truck is a standard Thunder Tiger Pro 18-BX.

2) The brakes dont seem to work that well, to be honest I am only just running the car in still so I was wondering if they take time to bed in properly

Anyway if you can give any advice and tips foe the future then it would be much appreciated!!

Thanks
George

Hi,

I used to own this truck and had a blast with it. I on;y moved it on because I needed the space for the S50

To help starting you can drop a little fuel in the carb by removing the airfilter. This will get it to fire up much easier and as soon as it does fuel will get sucked up the fuel tube and after a couple of stalls you will be good to go. It can also help if you loosen up the glowplug by one turn, remembering to tighten it once started.

As for the brakes, get yourself a 6v hump pack to improve the servo strength. Next up could be a brake adjustment, just tighten up the adjustment on the plates a little, or could just need a tweak on the linkages (be careful here). Its unlikely they will get better, and if your interested the brakes were excellent on mine. I'd say a slight adjustment would be all thats needed.

Any more probs, just let me know

Have fun O0

Hi Laughing Potato

Thanks for the advice you gave me, I really appreciate it. The brakes seem to be really working a lot better O0. Its now had 6 tanks of fuel through it.

I have now hit a problem......I've broken the Front Drive Bone !

It basically snapped in 2 when the truck cartwheeled, but half of the drivebone is still intact in the plastic drive cup. I've found a replacement drive bone on modelsport uk's website and duly ordered it but I cant for the life of me work out how to remove the reamins of the broken one and replace the new drive bone.

Is it a case of taking the wheel off and taking the front arm apart completely or can you just unclip the drive bone easily?

Sorry for maybe not explaining clearly but I am literally learing as I go along!

Thanks
George

This should be of some help.

http://aedownloads.com/downloads/manuals/mmgt_manual.pdf

It looks like it uses pivot ball suspensions so your easiest option would probably be to take the bottom shock mount screw out and remove the top hinge pin at the top of the gearbox. That should give you enough movement to be able to remove the driveshaft, if not see if you can remove the bottom hinge pin too and you'll be able to remove the a-arm completely.
