New bright LR3: few problems need some tips and suggestions.

Hey guys i just started out here and bought a newbright LR3 rockcrawler as my first RC was by Newbright so i thought it would be nice.   A few problems i have is that the battery is pretty bad and doesnt last long. I've heard that i can switch the battery with a 9.6V 1600ma NI-MH battery. Would this help it significantly? Also i have some problems with the steering as it doesnt want to turn much. Would a 1600ma battery help power the steering enough to turn properly?   Any other mods and tips would be nice too! Its my first time a while and started out with something cheaper.  - Thanks!

Newbrights are mostly found in America/Canada

i know they used to have a whole section on the newbrights but that was 2 years ago mayb 
it will still be there in the archives you just need to look 

as for motors, batteries etc
if the money is there it is probably best to get a new battery and ESC, if i remember people did some mods to the servo to make them work better there was a thread on RCC somewhere

stu your right the masons are much easier to join rofl
