Guvnoring the slash. Must see.
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:02:16 PM »
Here's a few preview shots of the bodyshell and tyres i have prepared for the slash. Yes, it will nearly be that low with a Slash underneath it. Bodyshell prep went well, removed the front bumper off the Slash and left the front long like a splitter, matt black (obviously shine on the polycarb means it looks gloss). Decided it needed a jokey American muscle car style wing, so found an old Tamiya CC-01 Tourag bodyshell and tore the rear removable body part off it and went to work with the trimmers. Resprayed it black, inverted it and walla. Wing.

Rear tires are pro line strikers and have that real good looking drag radial look to them. I have taped them inside with alloy tape to prevent them ballooning to the point they pop off the beadlocks. Fronts are pro line road hawgs. Wheels are on back order and are pro line Epic beadlocks with the all black finish. Just needs the alloy rear hubs, shock caps and steering bellcranks I have ordered from STRC to get here along with the wheels and we'll be away.

When this truck is finished it will be a Slash VXL geared 25/86 (possibly higher) with a brace of 3 cell lipos, road tires, road ground clearence, road handling, blue alloy upgrades etc. You may call it 'The Boss', or 'The Gov'nor', just something similarly tough, or it may take exception and eat you. ;)

Yep. thought I'd best get some pictures of it together before I ran it lol.

I need to drop the bodyshell mounts to get the look I want. The suspension is set up to be hard enough, short enough, but with enough travel so that it isn't undriveable. So I don't want to go messing about with that.

Aye, flat black isn't exactly hard. Didn't even bother masking off the shock detail on the rear.

I dropped the shell through the mounts today. Sits right now.

Simply awesome.

From the rear it reminds me of the 'tumbler' batmobile.

Well, now geared 29/76 and reaching the limit of what the beadlocks can handle. Dialled some of the camber out so it looks a bit more normal and the bodyshell isn't rubbing too much.

I've had no problem with durability, however it is destroying tyres. Got three runs out of the first set of Strikers, readjusted the camber and tried again, and this is the result after 3 runs again...

I've gone to some Schumacher Venom on road truck tyres to see if they are any better. They look like Traxxas Anacondas but are 2.2 sized and being Schumacher, hopefully far better quality. Would be really nice to see some proper belted radial tires for these and the new wave of brushless monster trucks. Even Phaltline tires begin to give up the ghost at about 70, with some rather gnarly explosions in speed run monster trucks.

And a pic of how she presently sits, very beaten up lol. Almost mad max with battlescars.

Drive it better! You are doing to many wheel spins mate, whilst fun, they will cost you a fortune 2:)
Anything more durable, just won't offer up the same level of grip. Can you alther the throttle curve to help stop the wheels spinning up?

I could dial in some exponential on the DX3-R I suppose. These Venom tires are far better in terms of wear and grip, on my 4th run now and they're still in shape.

The Strikers were just crap. They managed to combine no grip with a compound that lasted 15 minutes (literally) which only made things worse as they were always spinning. It's crazy fast as the Venom's balloon quite a bit now, Had to do some cutting of the shell to prevent the tires getting too involved with the rear arches.

As for my driving... Well lets just say I've been a BRCA member since i was waist high, and have got a Tomy Intruder that I ran shortly after it was released. Have also taken a few A final wins at the local club against X-rays, Mugens and Kyoshos using a box stock GV Rex-X. So I know a fair amount about wheel work O0

Was definitely thinking about it. However my next step was going to be a 4s lipo, 3100-60 Medusa and an MMM. Not sure how that chassis would accomodate the 4s lipo.

It should accomodate it ok...you might need to somehow extend the battery strap stand-offs, but the cell dimensions should be just the same as any 2 or 3S pack. The pack itself will just be taller.

A 60mm Medusa though...whoa. That's a LOT of power (the 60mm ones are usually used to propel 1/8th buggies). I would suggest considering a 50mm Medusa in the 2500kv range normally - especially as you're having tyre problems now - but then, I'm hardly one to talk about using sensible motors lol. %*%

That chassis does look great, though...Thundertech really did their homework on that one. G10 fibreglass is super-tough too. Have you considered getting a MIP ball diff for this? It'd probably help quite a bit with handling, especially at speed. O0

Tires would not be an issue. I'm just pussying about with a truck that looks nice because of the beadlocks. Make no mistake, 1/8th buggy rims would be on that sucker the moment it got a decent amount of power.

I'm aware of the power the Medusa would provide. I ran one in my E-savage for a short while before I sold it, brilliant motors. Power of Neu without the price! The 4S Flightmax 30c 5000 lipo on Hobbycity would slot straight in with the battery extension kit... nice.
