540 27T motor
« on: November 01, 2008, 09:54:32 PM »
Hi there,

to be honest I', not sure what the numbers mean, but would this be any good in an axial crawler Kit? I am thinking of buying my friend's and it has this motor. I know that usually they have 55T....so is it any good.
This will be used just as a crawler.

Thanks loads

D

higher turn the better for crawling
i imagine that the 27t motor will be ok for first time use

a 45/55 turn motor will give you more torque and greater throttle control however - so maybe look at one of those for the future

I assume you're referring to the Integy Lathe motors?

They're just really high torque/low rpm motors. They come in various numbers of turns from 45t all the way up to something like 85t.

They're about £20 over here if you can find them, but you're better off getting them from the US because they're about half the price and are easier to come across. They're used in crawlers all the time, and are probably the most popular brushed motor in that area of R/C.

Are you talking about the lathe motor? If so, yes, it would make for a capable climber

If you're talking about the 27t motor that comes with the Axial, then it will be ok, but you should budget for upgrading to one of the lathe motors in the near future if you want to start crawling seriously

Thanks Michael.
Actually I was wondering whether the Axial with the 540 27T Motor,  a teu-101bk esc and 87 spur /14 pinion be any good??
Also, it is normal for them to have some torque twist?

Cheers

Yeah that combo will be ok for now - you might feel the need to upgrade later though

Torque twist is normal for shaft drive crawlers, but on something as well designed as the Axial, it shouldn't really be a big issue. It can be almost solved with different suspension locations and shocks, but you'll need to experiment.

I've got a wheely king and that REALLY suffers from torque twist, I've had to remove the preload spacer off the front and add it to the opposite one on the back to fix it, mine also has a 27T in it...

To be honest 27t makes it more of a trail truck than a crawler...

Liquid RC are good for lathe motors, plus shipping is only 99c worldwide.
