The chance of damaging the transmission and breaking the driveshafts is increased, but not enough to be a much of a problem here. Handling will be affected, and you'll find the car much harder to control - it will understeer initially, then oversteer and usually spin out unless you're a 10th scale Michael Schumacher (since the Jato has so much power anyway)

To lock the diff, most people just fill it with glue, but due to the larger forces involved here, you'd be better off using a strong 2 part epoxy.

Out of interest, why do you want to lock it? For more grip offroad?

I don't own a Jato, so my opinion is somewhat unreliable, but from what I've heard, they are strong cars. I'd say 2 out of 10 to be safe.

Have you thought about just putting much thicker oil in the diff? This will give much the same effect as locking it (when you get to really think oils), but the possibility of damaging anything is greatly reduced. This is probably the best route to take

If you lock it you will have serious trouble controlling it, particularly on low traction surfaces as you'll be doing lots of lovely little donuts

I would recommend going for some thicker diff oil, but not locking it.

If you do want to try it locked just bung the diff full with blu-Tak as this will give you a good idea what it will be like and can easily be reversed.......

Just to add hot glue works as well, it also comes out a lot easier too. I agree with the guys though, just stick something like 30,000wt in there that's as good as a locked diff.
