Wild Dagger returns
« on: July 22, 2008, 05:02:48 PM »
I'm hoping to bring this to the ReCKtacular on Saturday, But I'm running out of time for my 11.1v Lipo to show.

I've used an old Savage shell which I think looks pretty good. Its ready to go, just needs power now to take on DT's CF. I think I'll stand hald a chance if run on dry grass, any thing else am all I'll see is dust. It's nice to have the old girl built again though, it feels like an old friend is back. This is my original, oh, must be 5-6 year old chassis and gearboxes on this one

Its not bad on 7.4 lipo, so may just bring it anyway.

That looks fantastic! :D There's nothing like a stock-style Dagger with a dynamite power system under the bonnet. >:D

The Escalade shell fits kinda well, in an unusual sort of way. I hope your 3S LiPo arrives in time though Colin...it'd be a real shame if it didn't. It's begging to be launched off those jumps at WOT! :D

What make/model of LiPo pack did you order, just out of interest?

Cold Fusion Status: Not running, due to broken suspension arm.
Air Fury Status: Pretty much running. Needs new battery setup (overheating badly), and soon, motors.
Electrical Storm Status: Under construction; 25% complete. Will finish it sometime before the earth is swallowed up by the sun.
TBX (Tamiya Brushless Xtreme) Status: STILL waiting to be sold as an "almost-roller". PM me if interested!
King Bee Status: Almost flying, just needs a few bits and some repairs.
Solaris Status: It flies! Ailerons are rubbish, but it flies. Just doesn't like landing...
Project X: So secret, it doesn't even have a codename!

I'm impressed that you still have the original chassis!

When I tried my 11.1v LiPo with twin brushless in a stock chassis it went from this:

to this

pretty quickly!! Although I admit my driving did not help
I'm sure my big chassis will turn up, but if not, this will be the little monster I bring on Saturday :)
Reliability is a bit of an issue… the solution: MORE POWER

Project Status:
Wild Fury: Waiting for new shock towers.
Wild Dagger2: Needs shock towers straightening and new gearcasings…
Brushless eRevo: Waiting to see if it is cheapest to convert my eRevo or just get the Brushless eRevo...
HPI Savage X: Running – at least for now! - although it needs a new hump pack.
Clodbuster: In about a million pieces…
Custom Scale Crawler: Looking for a 'modern' Hilux body.

1/8th Super Diffs now in production

Not sure now, it was just a cheap pack to get this thing running for the ReCK. It was dispatched 5 days ago, so fingers crossed, its got two more days to get here.

The Lipos arrived today, so the Dagger is coming. I'm going to try and get things installed tonight so I can at least have a garden test tomorrow.

I couldn't help myself, I got it running tonight in the garden. I've no idea how fast it will be as my garden isn't anywhere near big enough. The torque is noticeable though. The rear end squats hard down under acceleration. I can see the dogbones breaking first in this one. I'll car park run it tomorrow, just to make sure all is working as it needs to be.

Cool! Is that a 2200mah pack though? If it is, then it might struggle to supply the amps that the 5700 motor is asking for (it should be able to flip onto its back easily with the right pack and good tyres)...but still, looks good! I'd suggest keeping an eye on the temps of the pack when you run it on the day though (and when you test it tomorrow), just to be on the safe side. O0

Yeah, I'm really just testing the whole lipo scene really. I didn't want to go mad as I don't have anything else to use a 11.1v lipo in as yet. I just wanted to give the Dagger one last grand day out  The pack is rated 20c with 30c burst, which isn't bad for this size pack. I know its not enough, so todays shake down will discover just how much the pack can deliver and temps.

Thanks for the advice though, Lipo is new magic to me currently. But me likes >:D
