I'm guessing he got it from a mixture of being both over anxious and excited. Its quite common.

Hehe, A-main hobbies had some. Was saying limited stock so I just went for it. From them sending it on Monday to it hitting our customs took 2 days, now it's been there for 2 days  ::) So far it's cost $250 so depending on customs charges I'm looking at paying around £150 for it.

Yes of course there will be pictures and a review, it's been hell getting one of these. You know they're in demand when Towerhobbies runs out and doesn't even have a date for a delivery.

22.36 inches of stadium truck goodness is nearly within my grasp.

Sit down, let me tell you all about a little company called Parcel Force...

Once upon a time, Uk customs received a parcel from the US. Once they'd finished arsing about with it and kicking it around the floor in the office they decided to send the offending eventual receiver of the parcel a bill for the priviledge of delaying it's delivery for around a week. The receiver of said bill was ok with this, having had dealings with receiving large rc related parcels from the US before. He was also used to the parcels getting the 5,000 miles or so across the US and Atlantic in around a day and a half, then taking two weeks to get the 200 miles to his front door when in Britain. It was just something he had to accept if he was not going to wait a paint dryingly long amount of time for a release over here.
So all this is over, he's paid the customs charge, as well as a £14 clearence fee to a company called Parcel Force, who say they have the package in a warehouse in Fareham in Essex, and on the website give an option for a delivery date. He picks the 10th of July, and waits with baited breath. Nothing. Assumes a slight delay for the Isle of Wight delivery (though being a Portsmouth postcode there is little excuse) but still nothing. Misses the weekend and assumes a Monday delivery, simmering below the surface. Nothing. Eventually loses rag and yells down phone at customer service agent X, who notes a payment made on the 9th of July, yet a lack of delivery. Chases up package, sheepishly admits to a now slightly irate man lacking a package THAT THE BLOODY THING IS SAT AT THE DEPPO ON THE BLEEDING ISLAND AWAITING DELIVERY, AND HAS BEEN SINCE THE TENTH OF MOTHERING JULY BECAUSE THE ****ING WAREHOUSE IN FAREHAM HAS HAD A COMMUNICATIONS BREAKDOWN AND FAILED TO NOTIFY THEM THAT THE ****ING CHARGE HAS BEEN PAID AND THEY CAN RELEASE THE PACKAGE FOR DELIVERY. 'Can we set a date for delivery sir?' NO WE ****ING CANNOT, I'M GOING TO COME UP THERE AND PRISE THE PACKAGE FROM YOUR SWEATY LITTLE HANDS MYSELF.

And breathe.

I really, really should have learned not to trust Parcel Force the last time this happened when I brought the E-maxx into the country. The insult to injury is that Parcel Force's charge has actually doubled, yet the system is still comprehensively broken. The depressing fact is that it has taken a parcel since the 1st of July, when it hit the UK shores, over 2 weeks to make it to the point where I can go and pick it up myself from somewhere else... My friend in Germany ordered one of these and got it from the US in just 3 days, door to door. I hate this country.

On the upshot I shall definitely have the Slash tomorrow, so expect pics and dribbling over how awesome it is.

That is a f**king rip off!

You should claim back the money for the holding charge as you have *missed your son's birthday and he was very upset*

and then complain that the item was damaged though shock damage of being doped (that way no need of broken box/package proof )

and i hope it arrives soon!

Parcel Force  = Parcel Farce.

I feel your pain...they're a bunch of useless losers. They have a monopoly over the import delivery system here in the UK, and as there aren't really any other delivery services available to most import recipients, they just don't care about service. They don't care how much they charge, they don't care about the customer and they sure as heck don't care about doing anything about any of it. >:(

It's great to hear that you'll have the Slash tomorrow though! Should be a very fun day for ya. O0

Its all done to make it to much hassle to purchase from abroad. Its part of rip off Britain I'm afraid, and its only going to get worse. I've only had problems when ordering from the US, HK has been fine time after time (fingers crossed order pending).

I'd try a compensation claim though, after all they have plainly messed you about. Missing your sons birthday is a nice angle O0

Same with Royal Mail..... I've had a parcel delivered from the states, with items totalling a grand total of £23 inside.
This is over the £18 import limit, so I got hit for VAT that totalled the huge amount of £4.... Royal mail then added on their £8 clearance fee, so between customs and Royal mail they managed to increase the price of my purchase by 15%. Brilliant!! No wonder Royal mail are making a profit these days....

The best bit is it's been sat at my local Royal Mail depot for nearly 2 weeks and was about to be returned to sender and I only found out it was there by accident because I went to collect something else..... As LP said, it's all part of living in rip off britain

Drum roll...

Tis' here. And was it worth the 2.5 week wait? You bet your ass it was. Nothing, and I mean nothing has stirred me up this much in years.

What's it like?

Well, it's a Traxxas so the chassis is expectedly grey and a bit cheap looking, however it has some nice touches. It has an 'open the box' wow factor that is lacking from other electric RTRs, it's big, far larger than any 1/10th RC car ever. Beadlock style wheels and tires look nice and scale, however they lack a bit of sidewall detail, would have been nice to see some moldings on there in tune with the trucks competition origins. Standard radio gear is the Traxxas TQ radio gear and XL5 power pack, gets the job done but we'll discuss that later. The bodyshell is what makes this truck, it is enormous and covers far more of the truck than usual. Nice detailing and a comprehensive sticker pack accompany it and allow you to make the truck a bit more your own until the clear shells hit the market and some sick schemes start being sprayed.

How big is it?

Massive. You can talk in inches and mm all you want but until you actually lay hands on one of these things and get to cop a feel you won't have a clue. I was at a loss as to what to compare it too, I don't really have a competition stadium truck to take pictures with so I went with what I reckon is the closest truck to what the Slash is. The Tamiya CC-01 scale 1/10th chassis. You can see the difference is huge.

What is the suspension like?

Mental. It is very, very soft out of the box. It exhibits massive damping capability, allowing the springs to be really soft without bottoming out the truck. It's quite odd, as you can pose the truck and it will stay there, in the position you have put it. The travel is extremely long, too long in fact, allowing the wheels to rub on the body shell (which has to be positioned perfectly on the velcro tabs or it will rub itself away on the wheels at hardly any travel) slightly at full compression. It is totally wrong coming at it from a racing angle, yet somehow seems right, it wallows perfectly.

How does it drive?

Terribly. But in a fabulous way. The slightest adjustment of direction is responded to a few milliseconds after you've commanded it thanks to the soft setup, usually resulting in a most inelegant lurch to one side and the truck looking like it's about to turn turtle. The diff is open, too open as it will just spin away power at the slightest opportunity through an unloaded wheel and makes powersliding impossible other than on loose dirt. When on loose dirt it is simply awesome, huge slides can be held with rooster tails flying through the air. The stock power is just, and I mean just, enough. It will loosen the rear end coming out of a slow turn enough to get the truck squirrely. I was running it on a half charged 5000mah lipo so it may have more to give on a 7cell pack, but I can't wait till my mamba max gets here so I can lock that diff and overpower the truck like the real CORR monsters.

Will the stock ESC take Lipo?

Just if it comes with no batteries seem pointless wasting the pennies on NiMH

Yeah, I've run a pack through it fine. It doesn't have a cut off but just time yourself. Meanwhile, got some more pics.

Onroad slash!

Rear view looks phat with those wide treads on.
