Decent diff set-up
« on: May 25, 2008, 10:43:24 PM »
I'm looking for a good diff oil set-up as I'm getting way to much front wheel tyre ballooning at the moment. Clanfield is my next meeting, so anything that would suit a dirt track with jumps would be great. I like to power out of a corner with a slower entry.

I'm pretty new to the Truggy world, so I'd like some advise on this one.

Yeah, guess that would be helpful 2:)

Its running stock, so have no idea, other than its not right. The front and poss the center oild is way to thin imo as the power just washes through the front wheels as they balloon like crazy.

Its the HB Lightening Pro 2

I'm running 10-10-5 on my ST Pro at the moment, but that's got a centre spider diff so I guess it would be more like 10-13-5. I haven't had chance to run it much so while it seemed pretty good on the few occasions I have used it I haven't really given it a full test yet....

7-10-3 or something would be a good starting point.

After finding the guy that used Lee Taylors set-up a thought it was awesome, I've gone for that. Its 20,000 front, 10,000 center and 2,000 on the rear. For me this will almost treat the front as though its fitted with a spool, which greatly helped my touring car racing. I've just got the rear diff to finish, and will be testing at the weekend, I'll let you know how it handles.

I changed the oil set-up, and it has transformed the handling. I can't wait to get it on a track now O0

I did a dumb thing though %*% I put the rear diff in the wrong way round. I placed the Truggy on the floor once started and just couldn't figure out why I had no drive . The rear wheels were trying to reverse, so the Truggy was pulling itself in half 2:) I thought the clutch was slipping to start with, then after that possibly sicking brakes.

I won't do that again, not fun having to service the rear diff when just popping out to test drive

Been there, done that (more than once!)

Have you had it round a track yet?

Yup, and it was much better. I've been plagued with problems this season, none to do with the Truggy. Just stupid things like airfilters coming off mid race. Stones jamming the flywheel, getting my pipe knocked off by a back marked when certain for a bump up. It can drive you crazy at times >:(

I know the feeling....

Had my ST Pro out for the first time round a track last week.....

1st heat - Did not start - Starter box set itself on fire! Brilliant! £110 of starter box and batteries up in smoke! Had to get a start off someone else all day.....
2nd heat - Had a 10 second stop-go penalty as I did not marshall after the first round (as i was a bit busy putting out a fire (see above) - finished 7th of 9
3rd heat - Finished in the top ten across all heats (won my heat). It was gooooooooood. The O.S. .28xz is phenomenal
4th heat - Did not finish - rx pack died - I was so busy helping someone else after the 3rd round I forgot to charge it. Damn my good nature!!
Final - ended up in the bottom final, but unfortunately only got to do one lap as it was running like a pig dog.  After the 4th round the fuel filter had come loose and chewed itself to pieces on the front driveshaft. I had to replace the filter and fuel tube but didn't have chance to test it before the final as I was busy helping someone else (again!). The old fuel filter was better than the new one so it had a 'leaning' effect - so once I installed the new one it was running rich as anything... Oh well maybe next time...

P.S. Anyone got a spare starter box?
