99% aftermarket.
« on: February 17, 2008, 09:49:39 PM »
Hehe, an update. Here is a list of everything on it:

Drivetrain:
GPM alloy front and rear gearbox cases
3 Racing center gearbox case
Mip lightened and hardened top gear
Hot racing alloy center spool
Hot racing alloy solid spur
Hot racing hardened pinion
GPM titanium center diff joints
GPM alloy diff outdrives
GPM steel center shafts
Hot racing Lightweight diff posi locking plate in rear diff
Monotuning lengthened dogbones
GPM steel wheel shafts
Alloy hexes
Both diffs shimmed perfectly and greased

Chassis:
Integy X Evo carbon kit
3 racing chassis side rails
Integy carbon top plate
Integy wheely bar

Steering + suspension:
3 racing alloy steering setup
GPM thick tie bar
3 racing sway bar kit
Xspede 70mm alloy shocks with 25wt Trinity oil and red springs (for jumpin) or standard Losi springs (for bashin' round)
Monotuning alloy 10mm wider track arms
Hot racing alloy rear knuckles (to be fitted)
3 Racing alloy steering knuckles (to be fitted)
3 racing alloy c-hubs (to be fitted)
GPM alloy shock towers
Atomic titanium steering tie rods (to be fitted)

Power system:
Wraith 7k motor
Quark Pro car 33a speedo
TP 2000mah 7.4v lipo
Deans connectors

Miscellaneous:
Hot racing hub adapters for running 2.2 rims (see pic)
GPM alloy body posts
New Era wing mount
New Era wing
A huge amount of threadlock...

Stock parts:
Bumpers
Servos
DSM RX (though it is controlled by a DX3-R transmitter)
Center tranny mid gear (gotta have something to fail!)
Er...

Failed parts (couldn't take the heat):
Standard center diff
Front MIP center CVD
Rear MIP center CVD
Standard diff outputs (snapped one entirely off in the diff)
1 set of diff internals
1 set of atomic CVDs
2 standard pinions
1 7075 hardened pinion
2 stock shock towers
1 stock arm
2 stock hexes
3 stock rims
a body shell
so far...

So that's where it stands. Next mod is an 11.1v lipo now I've made the drivetrain bullet proof. it should hit around 55mph according to Troy at bishop power products. Making it the fastest RC I own, apart from a couple of planes. Weight stands at about 1250 grams including battery and the heavy ass MT2 rims. The MT2 rims are roughly 50 grams heavier per wheel and tyre than the stockers, so you are looking at around 1050 grams for whole alloy/carbon shebang. Considering the start fo the truck was about 1025 grams, I don't think we're doing too bad as that includes additions like the wing mount and wing, and wheely bar as well as the material of just about every part changing... Though the twin motors and NIMH pack have gone hehe.

I was going to get some mini-pins and yellow dish rims to give it that racer look. The MT2 rims are good for on road speed runs as the weight plants the car and gears it up a bit for more top end.

I think the next stage would have to be a serious change. I was thinking maybe an Exotek single 1/10th servo chassis to properly sort out the steering... It tracks fine now, but the servos the truck utilises are infamously pants. Plenty of power but as reliable as a Chinese made perpetual motion machine.

But there's no such thing... oh I see.

I must admit, the Exotek setup does sound and look like a much better deal then the craptastic stock arrangement. Will fit in nicely with the blue of everything else too O0

More bits... It's getting to the point where i would nearly consider it 'finished' for now. Not long and more goodies from hong kong will be here... the rear hubs will be alloy, and a new slipper setup should stop it from chewing pinions with the heavy duty spur. With those it should be totally reliable, I should be able to nail it full throttle from a standing start and it should take off without damaging anything in the drivetrain.

New bits are the meaty looking titanium turnbuckles (can finally set up the steering - bliss), a little stubby antenna, 3 racing c-hubs and steering knuckles. I've also thrown some more stickers at it, as it is now controlled by a DX3-R.

Hah! Finally made it through one, yes, ONE whole battey pack (about 25 minutes) without destroying anything in the drivetrain! The new slipper works great, allowing wheel stands and laying of rubber but without knackering diffs/pinions/spur. I have gone back to the stock wheel shafts as they are the only things that have not bent/snapped with the brushless system. Tearing a GPM steel one into two pieces on the last run at the pin mount was the last straw.  :--
