Newbie needs help with Acme 1/18 Leopard
« on: January 01, 2008, 02:01:55 PM »
Hi to all

I have bought an Acme Leoprd truck to get started with this hobby. On my first run I ulost the ront drive shaft and grub screw, so I lost front wheel drive,
1. Is it ok to use truck as it is or will I break something else?
2. I have got new  parts, Any ideas on how to fit them? Do I have to dismantle the whole truck?? I fitted them twice with a lot of fiddling but them came off immediately.....could not tighten screw properly.

Thanks a lot for you help

wel sounds like a problem with the size of the drive shaft
mayb the suspension needs altering i know in my 1/18 ther are tiny springs that keep the driveshaft from falling out

not fitting them wouldn't matter really, but try and get it fixed  O0

Threadlock, you must use it or you are wasting your time. I know how hard they are to fit on this model, the same happened to mine. From memory you need to lossen the center gearbox to allow just enough space for the dogbone to fit again after you have replaced the drivecup.

It should be fin running the truck with the part missing, you will be just running in 2wd instead.

Another question re my Acme Leopard. The steering servo (at least I think it's the servo!!!) is making "clicking" noises, sometimes, when I turn the wheels. Does this mean it's on the way out?
If I change it, do I have to buy an identical one or is there something better, more durable, I can buy?
Speaking about servos.........what is a servo saver?? (oops!!)

Cheers

wel it could mean a cracked part around the servo or on the servo so when it is turning it is moving it
or the servo itself could be knackered
or something could be getting caught or binding when the wheels are trying to turn

as for servo's you can buy better ones  O0 stock servo's wont be tht good tbh

servo saver is a tab like bit that goes onto the servo, not a gd explanation  :P

The stock servo isn't great on the Leopard, my feeling is you have brokrn it. If the Truck is still pretty new contact the place you brought it from and see how good their warranty is

If you decide to upgrade the servo you must get the same diamentions or it won't fit. Take a look at www.servoshop.co.uk for the ranges. You will need a servo with a little higher torque than the lower ranges due to the larger scale wheels. Once you have found the servo you want, copy the name into Ebay and save yourself some money on it O0
