Full size off-roading
« on: March 04, 2007, 09:51:56 PM »
I was very lucky to be asked to come along for a ride at an off-road center today :D It was amazing to be there and witness just how much these road legal 4x4's are capable off. I'm so grateful to Cliff and Jo for such an fantastic day out, and for being trusted to drive on a "BLACK" run

Here is the "Jeep" 2:) Land Rover I was in an drove

My view from up back

This guy made it up in the end O0

Lets twist again

"Go on Cliff"

My wellies arn't big enough for this!

Just take it to Tesco's to be cleaned 2:)

All my photos are here http://www.rckingdom.co.uk/cpg/thumbnails.php?album=201

It was a pleasure LP, and great to see you again   O0. I told you we'd sort something in the end :).
Shame it was hissing down most of the day, but it didn't detract from the pleasure I derived from getting to teach a driving instructor to drive. 2:)
I did wonder how much you'd enjoy it, knowing you spend all day sitting in a car, but was pleased you got so much out of it. Just goes to show that 4X4's aren't just for the school run!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a couple of pix of our glorious leader in action......

It was at www.woodlands4x4.co.uk in Kent. Never done anything like this before and completely loved every minute of it. I enjoy watching as much as anything else, because you can see the car working harder from outside.

I'll have a nose at those sites later tonight.

I went with Gizwaz from here, hes very much into this off-roading, has been for around 18 months.

Thanks for the comments on the pictures O0

I'm a member of the mud club forum, but not active atm as I seem to be spending far too much time working on my disco and the series 3 we have, along with all the stuff going on in the Discovery owners club.
I've just joined another local club too so even less time to spare now.

Guess what Cliff ::)

I've run the idea of getting a Disco past the wife :-\ Shes warmer on the idea than I though she would be, although there is plenty of convincing to be done. This isn't to do the kind of stuff you do in yours, more as just a gerneral purpose vehicle. Plus, although not mentioned or added by me yet. It would pull a rather nice size sea worthy boat ::)

Watch this space, I can grind her down in the end...................................... :-\

two words,  Good luck.
You would both get a lot out if it, and plenty in it too.lol

Keep me informed, and I bet if when you get one you'll be itching to get it off the beaten track, then it's the start of a long slippery slope.

Do you all run the Suzuki's? Or is there a mixture? I was impressed with how they kept going at this place. Very durable little things, and for a petrol they coped well with the water. Look scary though the short wheel base looked to make the journey a tad interesting to say the least :o

All five of us have suzuki's they range from one with 2in lift with all terrain tyres to a long wheel base with lots of lift 31in tyres and a 1.8 td engine. I have now sorted myself out with some hi-lux axles that my next stage. I have a short lane not far from me with 30deg climb with 2ft high rocks here and there in the way, I will get pictures next time we go there.

wohoo, found the thread at last :D

I'll be adding to this in a few weeks time. I'm going laning with Cliff in the garden of England, so will have some video and pictures to share. I'm hoping speedy will look at the thread, I wondered if you still run your Suzuki off road? I've not seen you down Lord Roberts for ages :(

Its looking great from your avatar O0

I'm going out laning again today with Cliff, around the Dorking area. The weather is looking bad, maybe snow over the high ground. Still, what else would I be doing on a cold wet Sunday. I'll have to tag along with you guys one day, would be nice to find some new lanes nearer to my home O0

Had an amazing day out laning today, don't think it could be much more varied in nature if we'd paid and played. I was able to put my Land Rover to the test much more than ever before, I'm still buzzing over it.

There was bomb hole, axle twisters and some huge slopes to negotiate. We even rescued a fallen cyclist as she was unable to get down the hill (mountain) on foot. Her bike went in the back on my Landy, and Cliff took her. It did mean a rather trick 3 point turn on a slope, and I now have a bent canvas hoop to show for it. (Cliffs good a seeing you back 2:))

With it now turning dark and starting to rain/sleet and snow we took the chance a took on the hill that the cyclists had said not too. It was tricky for me at a couple of points as I was at times just on the two wheels :o

My dad came along for the ride and loved it, I'll keep pushing, and he''l have a Land Rover by spring. You simply have to do this type of driving to fully get your head round how capable these machines are. Its 26 years young imo 28)

Here are a few of my best shots,

This Land Rover was the best £500 I've ever spent, even if it goes bang right now. If you think of the money people can pay for a good RC crawler, I know what I'd rather have
If you have lots of lanes round your way do it O0 Even if you only have the Land Rover for a year, you won't loose much money on it.
