I want to lock the rear diffs, fit some drift tyres (or pvc tape on old rims) and learn to drift.

I wouldn't lock the diffs if I were you. If you do that, you'll basically render the car undriveable, as well as put extra strain on the driveshafts. Fit some drift tyres and set the car up as necessary, and you should be able to drift without locking the diffs. If the diffs do unload badly, I'd fit the optional ball diffs instead; you'll be able to tighten and loosen these to get a setting that's just right. O0

Cold Fusion Status: Not running, due to broken suspension arm.
Air Fury Status: Pretty much running. Needs new battery setup (overheating badly), and soon, motors.
Electrical Storm Status: Under construction; 25% complete. Will finish it sometime before the earth is swallowed up by the sun.
TBX (Tamiya Brushless Xtreme) Status: STILL waiting to be sold as an "almost-roller". PM me if interested!
King Bee Status: Almost flying, just needs a few bits and some repairs.
Solaris Status: It flies! Ailerons are rubbish, but it flies. Just doesn't like landing...
Project X: So secret, it doesn't even have a codename!

hi i always lock my diffs i find much power is at loss through a open diff .but my use is for off road .. the way i do it is to open the diff and fill the planetery gears with epoxy resin put it back together and let it set ..seems to realy wake up the truck as you have boath wheels giving equal power. and you do need to lock the diff for drifting see this link .......http://rc-racing.org.uk/index.php?s=010c50181f2cf2df9677e8e8c72e23a0&showtopic=3410&st=0&#last

Fill them with blu-tac, add it in small balls to make sure it gets in all the crevices and voila!

Also means if you don't like it you just have to pick it out to unlock it O0

the blue tack method works for a while but then the diff gears chew it up you end up with a limited slip diff not much more than when you started i know because i have done this ,if you want a locked diff a strong epoxy resin is the only way .or replace the gear with a fixed spool .i have all the diffs locked on my models with this method and never had a problem  .i also find it provides more tourq and speed .but if your not sure about locking the diff then blue tack can be removed the epoxy resin method is permanent and iriversable .thanks

Another one is hot glue. It's non-permanent too.

i think the best thing for this is to put some glue on the diffs or blue tack
