HOBAO,truggy
« on: May 03, 2006, 04:53:16 PM »
i have heard tell of a new truggy from HOBAO,,,,,,,,based on the hyper 8

there will be a PRO an RTR versions,,,,,,,,

PRO,,,, will be pre assembled chassis,,,,,,,,req,,,,,,,, radio, engine, exhaust

RTR,,,,will will have a hyper engine, exhaust, fully installed radio gear,,slightly differant chassis,to make it more affordable, yet a high performace package

comes with a bodyshell with a huge wing on the back,,,,,,,,an chunky 8 spoke wheels, with similar suspension,as the hyper 8 an turnbuckles all around

so should be a good package,,,,,,,

anyone else seen or heard anything

Sorry to bring up an old Topic,

Just wondering is there any news on the Pro?

The RTR is out but i have not heard or saw anything on the Pro Version?

Or is it just me missing the Obvious somewhere?

Cheers,

Philip.

Well it's no different apart from having no radio gear or engine I'm told, Hobao will eventually bring out a fully hopped up 'PRO' kit as you'd expect but they won't waste money on developing parts which may not be needed, as always Hobao will be waiting on customer feedback etc.

Sloppy used one to good effect at the Neo event and I can assure you it's very well built, I can't wait to get mine  :D

If you havent heard already you can get a version which is just a roller (Incs the hobao rims and tyres)but also the added bonus of a clear shell. You can pick them up for about ?250

They are quite a fine piece of kit and mine is great. There are some bits that seem a bit, well, cheap but i am used to Xray......

The air filter layout is great, but the servo mounts/linkage seems ... adequate. However, the suspension, shocks and general handling components are all very good and function extremely well.

Myself and Rach gave our Hyper ST's their first run out today  28)

Wow, this truggy is awesome  O0 I've never driven an RC which was this good straight out of the box, the steering is absolutely amazing - very fast and responsive, it flies straight and true and handles bumps like they're not there  :D

I've used 7000 in the front diff, 10000 in the center diff and 3000 in the rear diff, shock oils are 50 wt all round with 1.5mm holes in the pistons, giving a great balance of handling and shock absorption on landing  O0

You'll be hearing a lot from me about this truggy, I really can't express how good it is  >:D

First race meeting is next week at Clanfield  :D it's gonna take some beating believe me  :--

I ran mine today for the first time also. Ran 10000-10000-2000 with 20wt oil in the front and 15wt oil in the rear. Shocks last but 1 out on bottom all round, full in on top front and full out top on rears. The car was dialled!!!

Whoa! :o Just checked out the pics (how the hell did I miss that?!) Now that's a lot of plastic! Still, must make it a tad lighter/faster than the rest of the 7075-clad boys!

Congrats on the racing Rob, and on its debut as well... I bet that upset a few of the locals! :P

Dammit, all this truggy racing talk is making getting around to selling my Lightning GT even harder now 2:)

Hi

I am new to all this. I recently bought a Savage 3.5 and now I want to get a truggy. A friend of mine (who lives in another country) recommended the HOBAO HYPER ST TRUGGY.
To be honest I had never heard of these before!! I am familiar with names like HPI, Hotbodies, Traxxas and all the 'common' ones. I sthis any good and user friendly? Will it be difficult to tune? Are parts readily availiable for it?

Thanks loads

Hobao are one of the most popular manufacturers over here and they make some really really very good models at reasonable prices. I am surprised you have not heard of them!
Their Hyper 8.5 Buggy is very very strong and very competitive. The Hyper ST Truggy is also very popular and has won countless races around the world, and the newer ST PRO version is fantastic.

The build quality of Hobao stuff is generallly very good, and parts are available from any model shop or online, and there are always hundreds of bits available for them on Ebay.

The Ready to Run Hyper ST is a sound investment. The engine is not the most powerful out there, but they never are in RTR models, and it won't let you down. There are plenty of guys at my local track who race competitively with the Hyper ST RTR.

I have a Hyper ST Pro myself

P.S In America, Hobao are called OFNA, have you heard of them?

Thanks loads for that. No, I'mafraid I never heard of that either, but as I said I am still familiarising myself with this hobby. My Savage has a 2 needle carb (which I'm still getting used to  :D ). Is the truggy's engine similar??
I have recently moved to Scotland and unfortunately there are noclubs nearby so I have to figure out everything myself + help from this forum!!

Cheers

Yeah, you will find 2 needles on the engine as well. There are a few 3 needle engines out there, Weston supply one but 96%ish would be 2 needles.
